My journey in Rotaract has been transformative, marked by personal growth and the acquisition of valuable skills. Prior to joining Rotaract, I struggled with speaking in public. Rotaract gave me a supportive environment where I could gradually overcome my fear of public speaking. Through opportunities to address meetings and participate in community events, I improved my communication skills and gained confidence in expressing my ideas effectively.

We are our own greatest networking asset. I realized that early on when I assumed the role of professional development director for my Rotaract club. It amazed me every time I spoke with one of our members how accomplished they were and how they were almost afraid to talk about what they had achieved in their relatively short careers. Many young professionals in Florence, Oregon, end up leaving when their children reach school age, seeking greener educational pastures for their kids. Our club began to think about how we could help our schools keep those bright young families around.

We came up with the idea of a Continuing Professional Education Fellowship program, modeled after a national teacher grant program we had seen, to help teachers pursue professional development.
