Rotary and Archbishop Desmond Tutu are working to create a more peaceful world.

Recently, The Desmond Tutu Foundation devoted a blog post to Rotary’s work in peace and conflict resolution, noting “The Rotary Foundation has been a pioneer in creating an effective curriculum of peace.

The idea of education as a way to foster peace is an old one.  But putting it into practice on a global scale through a private organization is groundbreaking.”

For the past ten years, Rotary Peace Centers have been training men and women to promote national and international cooperation, peace, and the successful resolution of conflict. In 2009, Tutu, a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, met past and present Peace Fellows as keynote speaker at the Rotary World Peace Symposium. A polio survivor, he is also part of the “This Close” public awareness campaign.

 “A sustainable foundation for peace starts with a proven process for teaching each generation the skills of peace-making and conflict resolution,” the blog post goes on to note. “The Rotary Peace Fellows program is showing us how to make this a reality.” Read the full post.
